Of Perspective and Its Absence

It's a funny thing, perspective. Something seems so insanely massive, and then a comparison to something far greater makes it appear exceedingly tiny. You worry so much about what you'll do on your exam until your relative getting sick completely puts it out of your mind.

But then what happens? Our natural yet devastatingly annoying human nature kicks in. Your relative gets better and you go back to thinking that the apocalypse will take place the minute you learn you got something less than an A on your exam. You know you didn't use to feel that way, and maybe there are times when you can remind yourself of how it felt to be faced with adversity of a much graver nature, but the feeling is more dilute than when said adversity was actually taking place.

However, that just might be what pushes us forward. Perspective makes us realise what's important in the big picture; temporary lack of it helps us focus enough on the goal in order to achieve it. Constant lack of perspective, though, that's what's truly detrimental.
