Egypt & Algeria

Now I don't know if you've heard about this, but I'm guessing you probably have. Anyway, for those who don't know, here's a brief summary.

At the end of the World Cup 2010 qualifiers in this region, only Egypt and Algeria were left to compete for this remarkable chance (Egypt hasn't entered the World Cup since 1990). The match here at Cairo Stadium tied the two countries' points, but Algerian media allegedly published false news about the injury and death of some Algerians in Cairo before the match. This got the Algerians so fired up that they allegedly decided to head to the very last match in Sudan armed with knives (some people say the Algerian government sent ex-convicts, but who knows?) and scare and hit the Egyptian supporters.

Now, I wasn't there at any of those events so I can't be sure of what really happened, but what I do know is that this is another ridge being created between two countries at a time when world peace is much coveted. We're all screaming at the tops of our lungs that we want world peace, asking why it's such a hard thing to achieve, but in a situation like this not many people try to take action and fix things before it's too late.

These countries are both Arab countries, but above all, they're both made up of human beings called the people. Who cares if the Algerian government really did plan this (if that's even true)? We can't control our governments, but we can control ourselves. Let's bring peace between the people of Algeria and the people of Egypt. Let's forget this awful ridge was ever created between us and let's be friendly humans again.

I know it sounds corny, but that's what we really need. And there are lots of way of achieving that. We can host conferences between young people from both countries, or start using the technology that is available to us (Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, etc.) to spread the peace.

Please, be you Algerian, Egyptian or neither, try to help us stop another world-peace-preventing event from occurring. If you have a blog or website or Twitter or Facebook or anything, try to use it to spread the idea of peace between the peoples of those two countries.

Leave a comment and let's stop talking about what HAPPENED and start talking about what we're going to DO about it!
